New entry · Speak

Add events and tasks with one sentence, typed or spoken

Add events by voice or with one typed sentence in “New entry”: you write or say something like “Dentist Ben Thu 3 pm”, and the AI fills in the form from it. You see what it read, change anything that is off, and add it. If you would rather type everything yourself, use “Fill in yourself”.

How to add something with one sentence

  1. Open “New entry”

A tap on “New entry” in the calendar opens the sheet with the field. If you start from the plus on a day, the sheet brings that day along, so the sentence does not need to mention it.

  2. Type or speak

Type what is coming up into the field, the way you would tell someone in the family. Or tap “Speak” and say the sentence: whatever the browser recognises then appears as text in the field, and you can still change it.

  3. Tap “Continue”

The AI reads the sentence and fills in the title, day, time and person, plus the repetition if you name a rule. If the sentence sounds like something to get done, such as “Buy a present for Grandma”, it usually becomes a task.

  4. Check and add

The summary shows each detail on its own line. Anything the AI had to interpret, or that was not in the sentence, is flagged, for example with “Check the date”. If everything fits, tap “Add”; otherwise change the line or open the whole form with “Edit all details”.

What one sentence turns into

“Dentist Ben Thu 3 pm” becomes an event for Ben on the coming Thursday at 3 pm. If the sentence gives a span such as “3 to 4.30 pm”, the end is filled in too; the place and other details go into the description. Several names in the sentence make one event for several people.

Say “every Tuesday 5 pm training” and the AI suggests a series: the rule with Tuesday then appears under “Repeat”, and the first event is the next Tuesday. Add “except in the holidays” and the series skips the school holidays where the app knows them for your region; otherwise the repetition is flagged for you to check.

A time such as “at 8”, where morning or evening is left open, is marked “Check the time”. If the calendar is filtered by one child at the moment, the sheet shows their name: it applies when the sentence names nobody and appears with “Check the person” in the summary.

Speaking, wherever the browser can

“New entry” shows the “Speak” button in Safari when Siri is turned on, and in Chrome once recognition runs on the device. The browser does the recognising: Familienplaner only receives the finished text, no audio recording.

If the button is missing, for example in Firefox, Edge and Opera, in Chrome without recognition on the device, in other browsers on iPhone and iPad or in a web app opened from the home screen, you dictate with the microphone on the on-screen keyboard. On phones and tablets, the sheet then points this out just below the field.

Safari on an older iPad with iOS 15 gets the button as well. If recognition delivers nothing there, it disappears again and the keyboard’s dictation remains.

You decide what goes into the calendar

With a typed or spoken sentence, “New entry” adds nothing without you: the sentence becomes a suggestion, and only “Add” puts it in the calendar. That way a misheard word shows up before the whole family sees it. If you attach a photo or PDF instead, the AI adds the events directly, as with a forwarded email.

On a tablet in landscape and on a computer, from 1024 pixels wide, the whole form opens instead of the summary, already filled in. On a phone the summary is enough; each line in it takes you into the form with one tap.

If the AI does not answer, the form opens after twelve seconds at the latest, with your sentence as the title, so nothing is lost.

What to know about adding by sentence

  • The AI can make mistakes, and speaking adds the odd misheard name or number. That is what the summary is for: look at the day and time before you add.
  • The “Speak” button is not available in every browser; where it is missing, the microphone on the on-screen keyboard remains. Without an internet connection the AI cannot read the sentence, and you fill in the form yourself.
  • Familienplaner receives no audio recording. After “Continue”, it passes the recognised text to the same AI as a forwarded email, together with the names of your family members.
  • One sentence makes one event or one task. Add several events one after another, or attach a list as a photo.
  • A task has no time: if the sentence gives one for a task, it is dropped, and the summary tells you so.
  • Each family can have the AI read at most 200 sentences a day. After that, you add entries yourself until midnight, with “Fill in yourself”.

Frequently asked questions about adding by sentence and voice

Which browsers does “Speak” work in?

In Safari on iPhone, iPad and Mac when Siri is turned on, and in Chrome when recognition runs on the device. Everywhere else, including Firefox, Edge and Opera, you dictate with the microphone on the on-screen keyboard; on a phone the sheet points this out itself.

Is Familienplaner listening in?

No. It only listens while you talk after tapping “Speak”: the recording ends after a short pause, with “Stop recording” or after 30 seconds at the most. Your browser does the recognising; Familienplaner only receives the text you see in the field, and only after “Continue”.

Can I add tasks this way too?

Yes. If your sentence is about something to get done, such as “Buy a present for Grandma” by Friday, the AI makes it a task, with a deadline and a person if the sentence names them. At the top of the summary you switch between “Event” and “Task” if it read it differently.

What if the sentence has no day in it?

Then an event shows today, marked “Check the date”, so you don’t miss it. If you started from the plus on a day, that day applies. A task without a day stays without a date.

Does it work without the AI at all?

Yes. “Fill in yourself” sits next to “Continue” as an equal choice and takes you to the form without the AI; whatever you already typed in the field becomes the title. Even if the AI does not answer, you end up in the form and your sentence is kept.

Which language can I speak in?

In the language you use Familienplaner in: German, English, French or Italian. For German, Familienplaner asks the recognition for the form used in the country in your settings, Germany, Austria or Switzerland; for French and Italian, for the Swiss form in Switzerland and otherwise the one from France or Italy; for English, the British form. If recognition for the Swiss or Austrian form isn’t available, it tries the one from Germany, France or Italy.
